This double-storey home is being developed together wit Urban Innovation Homes as an affordable sustainable residence that looks beyond the star rating. It is designed to provide maximum flexibility over a long period of time, can house three generations and allows aging in place and looking after elderly parents if required.

The home can easily be reconfigured to accommodate a number of housing options. A separate entrance allows to split the building into a one bedroom unit with home office downstairs and a two bedroom dwelling with a dining/ living room and two balconies upstairs. The laundry is shared between both dwellings. Another option is subdividing the first floor to create a one bedroom unit upstairs and allocating the two bedrooms to the main dwelling by introducing a simple stair.

The house is zoned locating the main living areas north to receive maximum sunlight and placing amenities and circulation south, east and west minimize heat loss. This design achieves 9 stars on an east west orientation block of land in Melbourne.
